The purpose of the New Terminal 2 (T2) and modernization work made to the Mexico City International Airport Benito Juárez (MCIA) is to clear Terminal 1 by improving landing and take-off timing, as well as improving operations and security conditions.

It is a modern building that architecturally joins five structures: the Terminal Building; North and South pre-boarding lounges; rotunda; hotel; and parking.

Construction surface: The new Terminal building consists of 242 thousand 496 square meters. The passenger building incorporates the most modern security systems, as per international standards. Among these is a passenger flow separation system that allows passengers to arrive on the lower level and depart from the upper level, broadening the space to 22 square meters per passenger within the terminal building. The T2 is also an intelligent building that has natural lighting and ventilation, bringing about important savings on electrical energy; it has air conditioning in specific areas and furniture and signs designed by Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA) and built in Mexico. In addition, it includes advanced technology baggage-handling systems.

Construction surface of operational areas: the jetways and new taxiways are 426 thousand square meters.
