First Decade, 1965-1975
On June 10th,
1965, Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA), was
created as an independent government agency with proper equity and legal
identity. The main tasks were:
administration, operation and maintenance of airports and ancillary,
auxiliary and commercial services at the 34 airports existing at that time.
During these
first years the most important challenge was to modernize and enlarge the
existing infrastructure in response to new challenges and technology and operation
breakthroughs, as well as to face the increasing demand of operations that
underwent exponential growth at the time.
During the
first ten years ASA built,
enlarged and rehabilitated 25 airports, achieving to update the network and
aeronautical facilities in the country.
The network
operated and administrated by the company came to include over sixty airports
and aided the company to obtain recognition as operator and constructor in Latin America.
